As one of Nigeria’s frontline artistes leading the exportation of Afrobeats with her captivating music, singer and songwriter, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, has had an incredible year, and 2024 is far from over.
In what would be another milestone, the Grammy-nominated singer on Wednesday, July 24, made her debut on The Tonight Show with a stellar performance, starring Jimmy Fallon, 2024, where she performed her hit single, Last Heartbreak Song, featuring American R&B sensation Giveon on the original track, and Woman Commando, her exciting collaboration with American singer Coco Jones, and Brazilian star Aniita.
Both songs performed are from her sophomore album, The Year I Turned 21, which featured guest appearances from Nigerian hitmakers Asake and Seyi Vibez, and debuted at No. 195 on the Billboard 200 chart in May.
In March this year, she was named alongside Florida-born singer and songwriter Muni Long for the marathon starting which started in Detroit on June 5 and ending in Los Angeles on August 6; opened for US R&B star Chris Brown’s 11:11 Tour, made her Glastonbury debut on June 29, collaborated with the inimitable Chris Martin of Coldplay Show, and linked up with Will Smith this month, among other achievements.
With her performance on The Tonight Show, Ayra Starr joins the list of Nigerian artistes like Wizkid, Tems, CKay, Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema that has performed on the late-night American TV Show.
