Ahead of this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Nigerian hit makers Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Rema have emerged as the Nigerian nominees on the list.

Among the crop of Nigerians on the list, Burna Boy and Davido are making their debut at the awards, with their respective nominations for the Best Afrobeats category.

Interestingly, Benin, Edo State-born hitmaker Rema, also bagged the most nominations among his Nigerian peers with three solid nods for Best Song, Best Afrobeats, and Best Collaboration, respectively, with his global banger dubbed, Calm Down.

Ayra Starr follows with two nominations in her arsenal in the Best Afrobeats category.
Speaking on the nominations, Monde Twala, the Senior Vice President and General Manager for Paramount Africa, and Lead for BET International told The Guardian: “I am thrilled to see such a diverse and talented group of artists recognised in this year’s VMAs nominations. These nominations reflect the incredible impact these musicians have had on the global music landscape over the past year. The 2023 VMAs promises to be a celebration of creativity, innovation, and cultural influence.”
