Grammy Award-winning global music icon, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu well known as Burna Boy, has officially released his latest single, Update, a track that seamlessly blends his signature Afro-fusion sound with a fresh take on the iconic Back to Life by Soul II Soul produced by P2J.

Prior to the release, the Outside and Twice as Tall hitmaker took down all posts on his Instagram page, sparking widespread speculation. He had on Tuesday, February 18, shared the video teaser for the new song

A check on the IG page shows that the clip is now the only post on his feed as he appears to be cleaning up his IG account ahead of the No Sign of Weakness album. It needs be noted that the act of cleaning the IG page ahead of new releases is now a common practice among Nigerian artistes with Wizkid, Asake, and Seyi Vibez all recently deleting all posts before their new projects.

The song, which fans had been eagerly anticipating, gained massive attention when disc jockey, and musician, Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola better known as DJ Cuppy sent the social media into frenzy with a cryptic teaser just a day before the release.

The Gelato hitmaker on Wednesday, February 19, shared a clip playing the opening of Back to Life alongside the intriguing caption: “This classic is about to get a major update. Stay tuned.”

With speculation reaching a fever pitch, the official release of Update now delivers on the hype, showcasing Burna Boy’s ability to reinvent timeless classics while staying true to his unique artistry.

The teaser and release have sparked widespread discussions across major Nigerian and international media outlets, including Billboard, Rolling Stone, Culture Custodian and Complex among others.

With No Sign of Weakness album, he aims to continue his remarkable commercial run that has seen all of his last four albums earn Grammy nominations. The album has been preceded by the singles Higher which was nominated for the ‘Best African Song Performance’ at the 67th Grammys and Bundle By Bundle released last December.
