Glitz, glamour as Nigeria Comedy Awards holds

The maiden edition of Nigeria Comedy Awards held Sunday, September 24, at Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, amid glitz and glamour that saw individuals and organisations recognised for their outstanding contributions in Nigeria’s comedy industry.

Layi Wasabi clinched the ‘Revelation of the Year’, Sam Loco Efe and Gbenga Adeboye were honoured with the ‘Posthumous Award’, just as Kiriku went home with the ‘Best Comedy Kid’, while Dada Adekola walked away with the ‘Best Comedy Cartoonist’. The five winners received N1million each in addition to their plaques.

With the multi-talented Kiekie as host, music artistes, Tuface Idibia and 9ice, serenaded guests and awardees with their exciting music performances, while Segun Adefila’s Crown Troupe of Africa wowed with their electrifying dance drama. Akpororo lived to his billing with his hilarious jokes, as he was ably supported by comedian Damola.

Highpoint of the launch of Wale Adenuga, Chairman wapTV’s autobiography, titled, The Unusual Biography of MFR; A Pencil in the Hand of the Creator, as part of activities to mark his 75th birthday, which is currently available on Amazon and several e-book platforms with physical copies soon to be announced.

Speaking at the event, co-Executive Producer of the awards, Wole Adenuga, said, “we appreciate the immense support of Lagos State government, Indomie Noodles, Airtel, Malta Guinness, Peak Milk, and Fanta who partnered with us to ensure that the event surpassed even our highest expectations.”
