Music is spiritual to me – Singer Gerian
Music artist known as Gerian, born Ikponmwosa Alex Idehen has arrived on the African music scene with undying ambition and unquenchable desire, having lived all his life with music at the core of his soul and DNA.
For as long as he could remember, music has been an integral part of his life. He describes his style of music as Afro-Pop, a genre with a blend of Afrobeat and Dancehall.
Gerian has two songs to his name, titled “Matter” and “Abena” and they are testament to his readiness gto take his place among the multitude on the African landscape. Both songs are doing very well on all musical platforms and particularly trending feverishly on TikTok.
To Gerian, music is spiritual, because it involves just not his whole being, but sum of all his experiences, dreams, pains, desires, visions and more. Since childhood, he had always gfelt the vibrations and little by little they had manifested in his life to chart the course of his destiny.
“Music is spiritual and I love to talk about my experience in life. I also love to pass a message to people and music is an art that does that for me. My inspirations and influences stem from the music of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Fantan Mojah, Buju Banton, Youssou n’dour and many others,” he says.
Gerian is a blend of two music cultures. He was born and bred in Nigeria and having found himself studying and living in Gambia, the Wolof culture seems to have rubbed off on him as well.
“Youssou n’dour style of music is very inspiring that blends Wolof traditional instrumental and vocal forms primarily with Cuban and other Latin American popular genres,” he had proclaimed.
Gerian was born into a Benin Royal family of Edo State on September 11, 1994.
