In what may be considered a clarion call to action, gospel artiste, Olayimika Babs, also known as ‘Atabatubu Abere Orin’ has issued a passionate plea for a spiritual and creative revival in Nigeria’s gospel music sector.

With a career spanning over two decades and half, Olayimika has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of gospel music in shaping the spiritual landscape of Nigeria. However, he believes that the genre has lost its momentum and impact in recent years, prompting a need for a radical awakening and rebirth.

Speaking with The Guardian, the Iwoye Ijesha-born gospel music minister shares his vision for a revived and rejuvenated gospel music sector in Nigeria, one that will inspire a new generation of believers and reposition the genre as a force for spiritual transformation and social change.

According to him, the gospel music sector has been a vital part of Nigeria’s music landscape, providing a platform for artistes to share messages of hope, faith, and inspiration. He added that his call for revival in the gospel music sector is a timely reminder of the industry’s potential for spiritual impact and artistic excellence.

“We’ve lost our way. We must return to the root – to the real gospel era – where God’s presence was our priority,” he said.
