Again, TJ Sax Reaches Out To Kids With Cancer
Though a musician, saxophonist Tejiri Emore popularly known as TJ Sax is passionate about children living with cancer. Over the years, he has used his saxophone as a weapon to rally support for these kids, entertaining and presenting them with gift items.
In line with that tradition, the plight of children living with cancer in Nigeria will once again be on the front burner as the 13-year old saxophone sensation, in collaboration with Children Living with Cancer Foundation, will be leading a road walk tagged Heart of Hope Walkathon. Holding today at 7.30am, the walk will start from Dowen College, Lekki Phase 1, through Lekki Phase 1 GTB Gate Oniru and back to Lekki phase 1.
The initiative is aimed at making a difference in the lives of children with cancer and to solicit support. Attendees would be given free T-shirts at the venue as it promises to be informative, entertaining and educating.
“This is my own little way of supporting these children and letting them know that we are aware of their condition. I’m using this opportunity to invite friends and fans to join us that day so we could show these special children some love,” he said.
TJ, who once celebrated his birthday with cancer children at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, noted that, “it was an opportunity to see what these kids are going through and I thanks God we were able to go there. I think we should all find time to visit such people and show them some love, no matter how little,” he said.
The first of three boys, TJ Sax was born on November 24, 2001 in Lagos Nigeria. The SS1 student of a Lekki, Lagos State based school started his Saxophone lessons on the July 5th, 2008 and made his first public appearance on September 18 that year when he played the Nigerian National anthem at a convocation ceremony.
It will be recalled that TJ Sax recently released a new single entitled Boogie Down. Unlike his previous efforts, which parades a repertoire of cover songs, TJ Sax for the first time in his career went out of his comfort zone to record an original song. To achieve that remarkable feat, he teamed up with versatile producer and sound engineer, Adebayo Cean Joseph.
According to the producer, who was behind Tunde and Wunmi Obe’s latest album, TJ Sax’s deft display in the studio during the recording was beyond his years.
Xclaim summed up the experience this way: “At his age, TJ Sax is such an amazing talent. This is the first time that I am working with TJ and I can say that he is well grounded in music rudiments, which made it very easy for us to forge a creative chemistry. I have been singing the praises of Boogie Down to everyone who cares to listen.”
The song premiered to a rousing reception on Oga Madam Live with Omotunde Lolo1 on Wazobia FM. Mesmerized by the talent of the kid sensation, Cool FM invited him to Monday Live Music with Mannie & the Angels, where he performed an acoustic version with guitarist, Tonie the Emperor.
The Children Living with Cancer Foundation (CLWCF) is a Non Profit making charity organisation dedicated to the care and welfare of children with childhood cancers and their families in conjunction with the Oncology ward of the Pediatric Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
