Gov Ikpeazu Installs ABSU Visitor, Rewards Students

TO the Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), last week witnessed the fourth democratically elected governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu installed as the Visitor to the university.

TO the Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), last week witnessed the fourth democratically elected governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu installed as the Visitor to the university.

It was also the day the Faculties of Law, Departments of English Language and Literary Studies, and some past and present students were handsomely rewarded  for excelling in external activities by the governor, who doled out N3.5 million to them.

Out of the N3.5 million, the Faculty of Law and the Department of English and Literary Studies got N2m and one million Naira respectively.

Two past Law students that earned First Class Honours out of the four at the 2015 Law School graduation and the Department of English Language and Literary Studies, who emerged Zonal and National Winners of the inter-university oratory contest got one hundred thousand Naira each from the N3.5 million, as reward for making the university proud.

Speaking after his investiture in the presence of the Chancellor Dr. Francis Orji, Acting Pro-chancellor Chief Chuku Wachuku, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Chibuzor Ogbuagu, the deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Ifeanyi Elekwa, the university community and other state dignities, Ikpeazu pledged to perform his duties as specified by the ABSU Act.

He announced the grant of scholarship to any First Class graduate of the university for his/her Masters Degree indicating that he will shortly revive the state Scholarship Board and explore possibility of slashing school fees.

He added that he will beckon on corporate organisations in the state to assist the university complete its N40 million hostel project, reiterating his urge for academic excellence and specifically calling for the introduction of Engineering courses in the school.

His installation/ investiture was in fulfillment  of the provision of the University law, which the Chancellor said was formalised that day.
