As Nigeria’s technology ecosystem continues to expand, industry players are increasingly recognising the importance of human capital in sustaining growth. Among those shaping this shift is Olumide Okusanya, a human resources professional whose work has centred on integrating technology into workplace management.
Okusanya, who holds a CIPD Level 5 Diploma in People Management, has worked with startups and digital businesses to strengthen recruitment processes, reduce employee turnover, and align organisational growth with employee well-being. His approach, he said, is rooted in the belief that “the growth of startups necessitates not just product-market alignment but also the optimal placement of individuals in appropriate roles at the right moment.”
Over the years, he has developed systems that rely on HR technology to improve efficiency in hiring and workforce management. These include the use of predictive analytics, cultural mapping, and performance-oriented recruitment methods, which are relatively new in Nigeria’s HR landscape. According to him, these tools help startups “reconcile the rapid pace of innovation with the sustainability of human resources.”
For many Nigerian startups, gaps in compliance, payroll management, and workforce data have long posed challenges. Okusanya’s interventions have included the deployment of digital HR solutions that automate payroll, optimise compliance, and provide real-time workforce analytics. He noted that such measures “give founders the freedom to focus on innovation while ensuring the prosperity of their teams.”
His work extends beyond direct practice. Through mentoring young HR professionals, he is contributing to the development of a new generation of people managers. He has also advocated for stronger partnerships between universities and the technology sector to close the HR tech skills gap.
With Nigeria positioning itself as a hub for digital innovation in Africa, Okusanya’s work illustrates the growing role of human resources in building resilient organisations. By advancing data-driven and people-focused HR practices, he is helping to shape a sector where business growth is tied not only to technology but to the talent that sustains it.
