On the 7th of November 2024, Vincent Odunayo Alemede picked up the Excellence Award in Digital Supply Chain Optimization at the ATAEx Awards, held during AfriTECH 4.0. It is not a prize handed out lightly, which is why past honourees include Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency. The certificate, signed by Chike Onwuegbuchi for the ATAEx Awards Committee, credited Vincent for his role in digital innovation and inclusion across Nigeria. That single line carries years of quiet, detail heavy work behind it, and to understand it, you have to go back to where it started.

The story does not begin in a tech hub. It begins at the University of Jos, where Vincent earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy and graduated in the top five percent of his class. Pharmacy builds a certain kind of mind, one that treats a decimal point like it matters, and that habit followed him into every role afterward.

He carried it into Esoma Pharmaceuticals in Abuja, where from 2018 to 2021 he managed sales, marketing, and logistics. He studied financial and market data closely enough to shape executive decisions, and when he turned that same eye toward consumer behavior in modern trade outlets, product visibility rose by seventeen percent, with sales following close behind. He then negotiated seven million dollars in trade spend and category investments, pushing promotion profitability up by twenty four percent. When the pandemic hit and supply chains everywhere buckled, Vincent led a tele sales initiative that rebuilt coverage and cleared last mile blockages, driving the antiseptic product category up by an almost unbelievable one hundred and fifty five percent.

That run of results carried him to Liverpool by 2022, where he worked as Pharmacy Technical Staff at Wirral University Teaching Hospital under the NHS Trust. He built a forecasting tool that pulled together sales, inventory, and hospital data, and medication expiries and damages dropped by sixty five percent as a result. He also traced the sources of product contamination, and the quality control changes he proposed cut production failure rates by forty percent, saving close to a million dollars along the way. He still found room to design revenue models across pharmacy chains that produced a fifteen percent annual growth rate.

Even while earning his Master of Science in Biotechnology at the University of Chester, a program he completed in December 2023 on a Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship covering eighty percent of his tuition, Vincent did not slow down. In the summer of 2024, he took on a Business Development Associate role at Cumberland Emerging Technologies in Nashville, where he built market entry strategies for new biotech products and hit thirty percent market penetration in target regions. He formed partnerships with research institutions and pharmaceutical companies that grew collaborative projects by twenty five percent, and helped shepherd funding applications worth two million dollars.

Line all of that up against the ATAEx citation, and the award stops looking like luck. It looks like the natural result of someone who spent years treating logistics, forecasting, and market strategy as one continuous puzzle. Nigeria’s tech ecosystem has simply put a name and a date to something that had been building quietly for a long time, and Vincent Alemede’s name is now part of that record.
