A new dawn has started in Nigeria through the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in repositioning the economy to compete with the global economies.
As the world observes the International Day of Zero Waste, it is time to highlight a major opportunity for Nigeria to convert its waste management challenges into economic growth under the current administration and leadership of Mr President.
Nigeria is currently losing an estimated $250 billion due to improper and indiscriminate waste management. However, this loss is reframed as a recoverable economic opportunity through proper systems and innovation.
The Ambassador of Renewed Hope in Waste Management – Nigeria Amb. Dr. Ekpoye Promise Nakus and his team has invented Pioneer Waste Unit and Recycling Plants.

This initiative combines efficient waste collection with modern recycling processes to transform waste into valuable resources, creating a structured waste-to-wealth economy.

Key Benefits of the Initiative
• Revenue Generation: Waste becomes a source of national income through recycling and material recovery.
• Job Creation: The waste value chain can generate over 10 million jobs, engaging youths and communities.
• Environmental Sustainability: Cleaner cities, reduced pollution, and improved public health.
• Industrial Growth: Recycled materials support local industries and reduce dependence on imports.
Bringing Nigeria to Global Standards
The initiative aligns Nigeria with global best practices, where waste management drives economic development. It positions the country to become a leader in Africa’s green economy through innovation, partnerships, and modern systems.
Human Impact
Beyond economics, the proposal focuses on people and creating jobs, improving livelihoods, restoring dignity in labour, and building cleaner, healthier communities.
Call to Action
Waste management calls for collaboration between government, private sector, and innovators to move from ideas to implementation. With the right support, Nigeria can turn its waste crisis into a $250 billion economic opportunity.
