Adelabu faults minister as probe panel on Paris Olympics meets
Former Green Eagles winger, Adegoke Adelabu, has described as a game of “hide and seek,” the decision by Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, to institute a probe panel on “the various negative exposures to the country” at the 2024 Paris Olympics/Paralympics.
A statement signed by the Director of Information/Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi, made available to The Guardian, at the weekend, named Dr. Mumuni Alao (South West) as chairman of the panel alongside other members.
The ministry, will today, in Abuja, hold a Post-Games Audit and Review meeting on the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics with the president and secretary general of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), presidents, secretary general, technical directors and coaches of all 12 sports to the Olympics, and all four sports to the Paralympics, members of the Ministerial Podium Performance Committee, and heads of technical departments of the ministry.
Today’s meeting will be held at the Media Centre, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, at 11.00 a.m.
Speaking to The Guardian, yesterday, Adelabu, a sports scientist and former Manager of Eko United FC of Lagos, alleged that the sports minister is trying to “play hide and seek game with the Federal Government. It is a distraction from the main issues in the country’s sports.”
Other members of the probe panel set up by the sports ministry are Aliyu Mohammed (NW), Hajia Rakiya Muhammed (NC), Godwin Enakhena (SS), Dr Abubakar Ango (NE), Christy Opara (SE) and Victor Okangbe (SS) who will serve as secretary to the panel.
