Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu has been called up as a replacement for Umar Sadiq, who is the latest Super Eagles player to suffer injury ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Onuachu was confirmed as Sadiq’s replacement on the Super Eagles X handle on Friday.

Sadiq is the latest Super Eagles player to miss out on this year’s tournament due to injury.

Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, and Taiwo Awoniyi had to also pull out after suffering injury setbacks.

Onuachu was on target for Trabzonspor in their 2-1 home win against Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Thursday night.

It was the 29-year-old’s ninth goal in 15 appearances for Trabzonspor in the league this season.

The Super Eagles will take on Equatorial Guinea in Group A in their first game of the AFCON 2023 on Sunday, 14 January.

They will also face hosts Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau in the group.
