The Head Coach of Warri Wolves FC, Napoleon Aluma, has been directed to step aside for the second time this season following the club’s disappointing run of results in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The latest decision came barely 24 hours after the Seasiders suffered a damaging 4–2 defeat to Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), on Sunday, a result that has intensified pressure on the technical crew and heightened concerns over the team’s performance this campaign.
Executive Assistant on Sports to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Festus Ohwojero, told The Guardian, yesterday, that management opted for the move in a bid to halt the slide and stabilise the squad, as Wolves continue to struggle for consistency in the league.
“Coach Napo Aluma has been told to step aside,” Ohwojero, who is the immediate past director-general of the Delta Sports Commission, said. “We have told his assistant coach to take charge pending when the management comes up with a final decision.”
Aluma had only recently returned to the dugout after previously stepping aside earlier in the season, making this the second time he has been relieved of duties within the same campaign year. It remains unclear whether the decision is temporary or could lead to a permanent change in leadership.
Meanwhile, a club insider told The Guardian yesterday that Warri Wolves FC might bring in former Super Eagles player, Ndubuisi Ndah, as a replacement for Aluma.
