Aggrey (Blue) House on Wednesday emerged champions of this year’s Igbobi College Yaba 81st Inter-House Sports Athletics Competition held at the college sports ground.

At a colourful ceremony, Aggrey won 11 gold, three silver and four bronze medals to come first. The defending champions, Parker (Purple) House, came second with eight gold, eight silver and six bronze medals.

In third position was Oluwole (Yellow) House with seven gold, nine silver and eleven bronze medals, while Townsend (Red) House could only manage to gather five gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals to place fourth position. Coming fifth was Freeman (Green) House with four gold, four silver and six bronze medals.

Freeman House was, however, consoled by coming first in the march past.

Speaking with The Guardian on the essence of school sports for the College students, the Principal, Ven. Femi Fasina said: “It is to train the boys physically so that they will have a solid mind in a good body. Secondly, for the students to have a sense of winning honourably and losing graciously in every competition because in every Inter-House sports, somebody must win and somebody must lose. Thirdly, to discover talents that can be nurtured for the state and for the country in the international meets.”

Fasina however, admonished parents to support their children in whatever field they choose. “Not everybody in Igbobi College has the mental capacity to go through education. And that is why we need to discover them in their area of strength. I will advise parents not to insist on their expectation but give support so that these boys can achieve full potential that God has deposited in them.”
