Ajibade: Super Falcons yet to get $100, 000 largesse, match bonuses

Super Falcons’ Captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the Federal Government is yet to redeem the $100,000 promised each player and official in the women’s national team for winning the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco, reports soccernet.ng.

Justin Madugu’s side did the unthinkable in the competition’s final against Morocco, overturning a first-half two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 win.
Ajibade was the WAFCON 2024 Player of the Tournament and gave a speech during the trophy unveiling with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the NFF to invest in facilities that would help elevate the level of football to a higher standard, enabling the Super Falcons to compete on the World Stage.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded the Super Falcons $1,000,000 for winning the 2024 WAFCON, doubling the $500,000 awarded to the WAFCON 2022 winner.

President Tinubu then announced that each player would receive $100,000 (in naira equivalent, approximately ₦153 million), while 11 technical crewmembers would receive $50,000 (₦75.6 million).

All the players and staff were conferred with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and each team member was also given a furnished three-bedroom apartment in the “Renewed Hope Housing Estate.”

Additionally, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced ₦10 million in cash to each team member (players and staff).

However, the Super Falcons captain has come out to clear the air, stating that none of the promises made by the Nigerian government have been fulfilled.

“We have not received our money. They haven’t delivered it. They will pay,” the former Atletico Madrid midfielder said in an interview with Chude.

“All the promises we’ve been hearing, none have been fulfilled, so people should know, but hopefully soon. When they pay, it’ll be out there. Even our match bonuses and everything, it’s still a work in progress.”
