Akinade eyes Super Eagles shirt

As Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr continues to hunt for reliable goal scorers for the national football team, Vietnam-based striker, Ismaheel Akinade of Hong Linh Ha Tinh FC

As Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr continues to hunt for reliable goal scorers for the national football team, Vietnam-based striker, Ismaheel Akinade of Hong Linh Ha Tinh FC, has boasted he would end the nation’s goals scoring problem.

The Oyo State-born Akinade says he is determined to knock in goals for the Super Eagles if coach Rohr gives an invitation to camp.

The 26-years old Akinade said: “For me it’s a matter of competition for the Super Eagles shirts, and I trust myself to deliver once the manager extends an invitation to me. It’s all about competition and I will end the goal-scoring worries of Nigerians. I respect all Nigerian players, and it would be great having a rare opportunity to confirm my class.”

The Nigerian has been a regular scorer at Bray Wanderers, Bluebell United AFC, Bohemias, Waterford FC, Hom City, and S.H.B Da Nang FC before joining Hong Hinh Ha Tinh FC in the 2020/21 season.

The current season would be two weeks old this weekend, and Akinade is aiming to continue from where he stopped last season, when he was highest goal scorer at S. H. B Da nang FC. He was also the highest goals scorer in Vietnam, having notched 13 goals earlier at Bohemians in 2015.

Akinade was given a special highest goals scorer award presented to him by Manchester United legend, Roy keane.

“It was an honour getting an award presented to me by the great Roy keane, and it has been a big motivation for me. But nothing will excite me more than playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. I know that there are a lot of quality strikers, but I’m ready to fight for a Nigerian shirt,” he said.
