Akwa United Football Coach, Abdu Maikaba says his club will not approach the match day 26 game against Remo Stars with the notion that their opponents are on the last rung of the log.

Maikaba said Remo Stars’ position on the log will not affect their approach to the game, stressing that his club will approach the game with determination to win. He described the game as 50-50, saying his team wants to maintain their position on the log, while Remo Stars are playing to escape from the relegation zone.

“Remo Stars may be bottom of the table, but their performance on the field of play does not really justify their position. We have 13 matches to go and Remo Stars will want to fight till the end to avoid relegation. So we are not going to approach the match with the mentality that we are playing a bottom placed team, but with the mindset that we are facing a team on a mission.

“We are fully prepared for this match. We will go into the match with strong determination to win. The match will be tough because the first leg in Uyo was a very tough match.”

The Promise Keepers, as Akwa United are known, will be motivated by their goal scoring prowess, which has seen them scoring 14 goals in eight matches while conceding only three.

Victory against Remo Stars will push the 2015 Federation Cup champions into the top three and also boost their confidence as they continue their quest for a maiden league title.
