Amodu’s successes helped indigenous coaches’ fight for recognition, says Chukwu

Former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu, has declared that late Shuaibu Amodu’s club and national team’s exploits did not only prove his worth as a quality coach, it also helped indigenous trainers’ quest for recognition.

Lamenting the demise of the coach, Chukwu said the country has lost a great man, who played a major role in developing the Nigerian league.

The former Harambee Stars of Kenya coach posited that Amodu distinguished himself as a talented and creative tactician when he led the defunct BCC Lions to win the Federation Cup and also achieved the same feat with El-Kanemi Warriors.

According to Chukwu, most of the players Amodu discovered in BCC Lions and other clubs in the country in the 80s went on to play for the senior national team.

Chukwu said Amodu’s achievements in the domestic scene gave other coaches the belief that hard work and good results could take them to the top of their career.

He lamented that losing Amodu and Stephen Keshi has left a big vacuum in Nigerian football.

“I can recall when he was handling the domestic teams in the Nigerian league… Amodu made clubs like BCC Lions and El Kanemi Warriors popular through their exploits in the league. We will surely miss the great coach, who made a mark in the Super Eagles and the domestic league,’’ he said.
