Arsenal Golf Club Owerri to host third Leopard Ladies Tourney

The organising committee of the yearly Leopard Ladies Golf Tournament and Beauty Pageant has concluded plans to stage the fourth edition of the event from January 28 to 30, 2022 at Arsenal Golf and Country Club, which is located within the military barracks of 32 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri.

Members of the organising committee include Mrs. Ongodi Nkwoji, team leader; Maureen Reece, former Lady Captain of both Ibadan Golf Club and Tiger Golf club, Sumbo Oshile, the coordinator, Remi Johnson and Mary Gabriel.

The committee disclosed that every participant in the golf and beauty show is expected to be clad in leopard skin print attire according to the tradition and concept of the tournament that is focused on women empowerment with particular interest in women in golf.

“The idea is to show a desire to connect with nature, interact and enjoy the secured serenity of the lush green Arsenal Golf course,” said team leader, who is popularly known as Mrs. Mike as she was the wife of late golf enthusiast, Okpata Mike Nkwoji.

“The Leopard Golf and Beauty Pageant is not just one golf tournament, like we are used to. It is a unique one that was conceptualised to showcase our tradition and wearing leopard print is a way of saying ‘I am a woman, who is not afraid of being identified with African chutzpah.’”

While assuring golfers of their safety, Nkwoji explained that Arsenal Golf and Country Club was founded in 2003 and till date has never had any security issue.

She disclosed that the club has a standard golf course located within the military barracks of 32 Artilery Brigade, Obinze Owerri.
