The futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium have been thrown into doubt after Arsenal failed to renew the star duo’s contracts this summer.

According to The Times, the club began negotiations with representatives of the two players almost a year ago to secure their long-term futures in north London.

This proved fruitless, however, and further talks will not continue until the transfer window closes on August 31.

Both Sanchez and Ozil will now be allowed to enter the final two years of their contracts, leaving the two players in a greater position of bargaining.

German midfielder Ozil arrived at the Emirates in 2013 for £42.4 million ($55.3 million), while Chilean forward Sanchez joined the following summer for £35 million ($46 million).

Wenger, meanwhile, is still in searching of making additions to his squad as he scans the market for possible attacking options to work alongside French striker Olivier Giroud.
