The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD) has commended the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria for producing its constitution ahead of the deadline given by government to the federations.

Speaking during the federation’s annual general meeting at the weekend in Lagos, a representative of the Sports Ministry, Mrs. Nkana Mbora, gave special commendation to the federation’s President, Chief Superintendent of Police Abubarkar Yakubu, for not only providing a constitution for his people, but also for his charismatic leadership, which she said is responsible for the fast growth of Kickboxing in the country, culminating in the the return of the sport to next year’s National Sports Festival billed for Benin City, the Edo State.

Also speaking at the event, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), represented by Mrs. Kemi Obidaunsi, commended Yakubu for his exemplary leadership, especially for bringing peace to the body.

Earlier, Yakubu had praised his board members and other stakeholders for an encouraging turnout at the AGM, saying it was the first of its kind in the history of Kickboxing meetings in the country.

He said many states, clubs and other stakeholders were in attendance, adding, “that on its own shows that all the stakeholders are equally interested in developing the sport.”

Yakubu used the occasion to appeal to the Federal Ministry of Sports and the corporate world to support Kickboxing through funding, saying that all hands must be on deck to lift the sport.
