Former junior international, Emmanuel Babayaro, has questioned Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr’s choice of Wolfsburg’s Victor Osimhen, over MFM FC striker, Stephen Odey, in the team list released for the friendlies scheduled for England this month.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had sealed two tune-up matches for the Super Eagles against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London, in preparation for both the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers coming up later in the year.

Osimhen was the highest goal scorer at the 2015 U-17 World Youth Championship in Chile, but he is yet to find his feet at his club in Germany. Odey currently sits on top of the scorerers’ chart with six goals in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

According to Babayaro, Osimhen should be left alone to find his feet at Wolfsburg, instead of inviting him. He added that Odey should have been a superior choice after taking the NPFL by storm this season.

“I cannot understand the thinking behind Osimhen’s invitation, yet it appears everyone is silent because the decision was taken by Rohr, a coach who can do no wrong in the eyes of some people.

“Rohr is human and can make mistakes as well, and to me the decision to leave Odey out for Osimhen is pure injustice. The outcry would have been at its peak if the decision had been taken by a Nigerian coach,” Babayaro concluded.
