Barcelona beat Real Madrid to Rodri deal

Rodri

FC Barcelona are steaming ahead in their pursuit of Manchester City superstar Rodri, after hijacking Real Madrid’s operation for the Spanish midfielder, reports barcauniversal.com.

After having received the ‘yes’ from the 30-year-old World Cup winner, who has decided to snub Real Madrid, the La Liga champions have taken another major step forward.

Indeed, according to the reliable Matteo Moretto, Barcelona and Rodri have reached an agreement over the economic terms of his contract.

This comes as a major development, further affirming that the 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner is headed to the Spotify Camp Nou.

As per the report, the 30-year-old superstar grew tired of waiting for Real Madrid to close an agreement with Manchester City and has chosen to play for Barcelona.

With terms over his contract seemingly now agreed, the next step is for the Catalans to open talks with the Cityzens to finalise a transfer fee.

Moretto also mentions that Barcelona have offered him guarantees regarding negotiations with Man City to avoid delays as they happened with Real Madrid.

Moretto also reports that the Barcelona players in the Spanish national team played an integral role in convincing Rodri to agree to the move.

A number of the players who were part of the Spain World Cup-winning squad this summer spoke with the La Roja captain to get him to consider joining them at the Spotify Camp Nou.

With personal terms sorted, talks between the two clubs are set to get underway, with the Premier League giants expected to hold out for a fee of around €60-70 million.

Barcelona will likely try to negotiate a lower fee or a different formula to bring the cost down, given that they are still very much in the hunt for a top striker like Julian Alvarez.

For now, though, what is clear is that Rodri has snubbed Real Madrid for good and is on his way to Barcelona. And his signing, without a doubt, will elevate Hansi Flick’s team.
