Boniface continues impressive scoring run as Awoniyi, Simon bag assists

Super Eagles new invitee for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Principe, Victor Boniface, continued his impressive start in the German Bundesliga at the weekend.

Boniface scored two goals and provided an assist as Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Darmstadt 5-1 on Saturday.

Boniface gave Leverkusen the lead in the 21st minute before getting on the score sheet again on 61 minutes to make it 3-1.

He then provided the assist for Leverkusen’s fourth goal on 67 minutes.

He has now scored four goals in just three league games for Leverkusen.

In the Premier League, Taiwo Awoniyi provided an assist for Nottingham Forest who beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Awoniyi set up former Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga for the only goal of the game on 48 minutes.

The Nigerian international has scored three goals in four league games this season.

In the French Ligue 1 Terem Moffi scored his first goal in Nice’s 2-0 home win against Strasbourg on Sunday.

He had failed to score in Nice’s opening three games.

Also, Moses Simon provided an assist for Nantes who were held to a 1-1 draw against Marseille.

It is Simon’s first assist of the season for Nantes this season.
