The duo of Marcus Browne and Brandon Glanton have promised to deliver a mouth-watering bout as global attention shifts to Nigeria for the October 1st Independence Day boxing bout, tagged: Chaos in the Ring in Lagos.
Speaking on Monday at the World Press briefing held at the Balmoral Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, Liberia-born cruiserweight boxer, Marcus Browne, vowed to deliver a killer punch that would see him emerge the winner of the Independence Day fight.
“I’m fully loaded and I’m ready to press the trigger,” Browne declared at the Lagos press conference.
“Fans should expect power boxing, fireworks, and a statement for the cruiserweight division. This fight is sentimental for me, being Liberian, I feel at home in West Africa. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I want to put on a show for Nigerians,” he told The Guardian
In his response, Brandon Glanton vowed to give the bout his best shot, assuring Nigerian boxing faithful to expect a mouth-watering performance from him.
“I’m fully prepared. I’ve got great opposition in front of me, but I’m here to show myself,” Glanton said. “People know I don’t come to dance around the ring. Expect an explosive fight—I’m coming to show exactly who I am.”
Browne from Staten Island, New York, weighed in at 199.2 lbs, while Glanton from Newman, Georgia, came in at 199.6 lbs. Browne, a former titleholder and 2012 U.S. Olympian with a record of 25-2 (16 KOs), is looking to become a two-division titleholder. In his cruiserweight debut in 2023, he won a unanimous decision against Adrian Taylor after weighing 198.5 lbs. Glanton, a power puncher at 20-3 (17 KOs), has mostly fought in the cruiserweight division. At 33, he is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Chris Billam-Smith. He is known for his 2021 “Fight of the Year” against Efetobor Apochi and had three straight knockouts before the loss to Billam-Smith.
Dr. Adamu, the event organiser, said Africa is set to witness the largest boxing showcase in Africa since Ali vs. Foreman’s Rumble In The Jungle, assuring boxing lovers to expect bigger bouts from Balmoral Group.
“Our ambition is to stage a boxing spectacle that rivals Saudi Arabia’s recent mega-events while highlighting Nigeria’s unique energy and passion,” Adamu said.
