The Sports Ministry has expressed its desire to partner with Yucateco Boxing Promotions in its efforts to discover young, talented boxers for the country.

Yucateco Promotions organises a boxing league, which offers opportunity to established and budding boxers to hone their skills in the sport.

Speaking when receiving Yucateco Promotions’ CEO, Omolei Imadu Yakubu, in his Abuja office, Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, said the partnership with Yucateco Boxing Promotions would yield a range of initiatives aimed at nurturing talents, organising competitions and providing necessary support structures for athletes across Nigeria.

He said the ministry would foster a thriving boxing ecosystem that empowers athletes and contributes to the overall development of sports in Nigeria.

In reply, Yakubu said the sports ministry’s desire to partner with his organisation attests to the growth and work they have put in place over the years.

“What we have done is out there for everyone to see and I am not surprised we are getting this level of recognition at this time. The responsibility has become even bigger with our collaboration with the sports ministry.

“As I have said before, our aim is to make global stars from these ones you see today as amateur or local pugilists…”
