The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is waiting for the conclusion of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifier between Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Ghana’s Ampen Darkoa Ladies to sign off on teams for the 2026 Champions League billed to hold in Egypt.
Apart from the WAFU B and Egypt’s championship, all the teams for the championship, slated to run from November 1 to 15, 2026, have been confirmed.
They are the eight zonal winners in their respective CAF Zones from across the continent, including two-time champions from South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim (representing CECAFA), Cameroon’s Lekie FF (representing UNIFFAC), and Mali’s USFAS (representing WAFU – A).
Morocco will be represented by Fath Union Sport (FUS) Rabat, which qualified via the UNAF qualifiers and also the defending champions, AS FAR Rabat.
The winner of the Edo Queens and Ampen Darkoa Ladies game and the club representing the host nation, Egypt, will occupy the final two spots.
Edo Queens will meet with Ampen Darkoa Ladies on October 24 to conclude their WAFU B final game, which the Nigerian team thought they had won after a penalty shootout at the end of the original game. Regular time had ended 2-2.
After the shootout, the Ghanaians protested the format employed by the referee to decide the tie, insisting that the game should have gone to 30 minutes of extra time before the shootout.
CAF accepted their plea and ordered that the game be completed with 30 minutes of additional time and then a penalty shootout if the teams are not separated within the added time.
Edo Queens have since protested CAF’s ruling, but the latest press statement from the African football governing body indicates that the teams have to adhere to the replay order.
The 2026 CAF Champions League will be Egypt’s third time hosting the event, which they first did with the inaugural edition in 2021.
