Coach promises to take MFM to continent next season
Interim Head Coach of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club (MFM FC), Olalekan Gabriel, has described as amazing the 10th position made by the club in the just concluded Nigeria Professional League (NPFL) season.
Gabriel took over from Coach Tony Bolus early in the year, following the ‘Olukoya Boys’ poor run of form. The team were languished in the relegation zone for several weeks before they returned to winning ways and eventually ended the league on the 10th position.
Speaking to The Guardian yesterday, Coach Gabriel, who attributed the club’s feat to God, added that hard work by the coaching crew, players and the club’s management ensured MFM FC ended in the middle of the table.
“I need to commend the coaching crew and players for their hard work and coming together to rescue the club from regulation. The management’s contribution was also huge, of course, to make sure we ended well in the league,” he said, adding that he plans to take the club to the continent next season if given the chance.
“For now, I don’t know the plan the management of the club has for me next season. It is when I am contacted and confirmed as the substantive coach of the team that I can now begin to roll out my plans for the new season.
“Definitely, I would want to see the team qualify and play in the continent at the end of next season. Firstly, I will like to see how we (coach crew) can work things out together with the players and management to ensure we achieve the goal of playing in the continent, which is possible by God’s grace.
“Thank God we still have most of the players around and we can go ahead to have an addition of mature and experienced players to make the team solid. But my proposals will now depend on the management if they want me to continue,” he stated.
