‘Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal friendlies will prepare Eagles for Indomitable Lions’
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is trying to organise friendly matches for the Super Eagles against Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire next year because their playing style is similar to the Nigeria’s Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying series rivals, rivals Cameroun, reports africanfootball.com.
In August 2017, Nigeria will first welcome Cameroun before playing a reverse fixture against the Indomitable Lions a few days later in continuation of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
According to NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, “Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal are teams who play like Cameroun, and we are priming for our next (World Cup) game against Cameroun.
“These friendlies are not yet confirmed but they are at an advanced stage of being finalized,” he said.
It is understood that the matches against West African foes Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire could be played in the FIFA-friendly window in March in London.
The other FIFA-friendly window will be in June, officials said.
Egypt recently pulled out of what would have been Nigeria’s first game of 2017 in Dubai, citing the NFF’s demand that the foot all the bills.
With Nigeria out of Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup, the NFF believes that test games against strong sides would keep fit for the task of getting to Russia 2018.
