Delta, Lagos dominate weightlifting event

Delta State has won a total of six gold medals, while Lagos picked three to dominate day two of weightlifting events of the festival.

Team Delta claimed all the three gold medals in 49kg women, as well as 67kg men categories, while Lagos took all three gold medals in 55kg men category.
In the 49kg women category, Monica Uwe of Delta won the gold medal in the snatch with a lift of 75kg and also claimed the gold medal in total with 165kg lift. She also won a silver medal in clean and jerk with 90kg lift and another silver in total with a combined 163kg lift.

Ruth Asuquo Nyong of Nasarawa State won a silver medal in snatch with 74kg lift, while Ebele Agbah got a bronze medal with a 73kg lift.
Augustina Nwokolo of Lagos settled for bronze medal in total with a lift of 153kg.

Team Lagos went home with all the three gold medals at stake in 55kg men’s category, leaving Akwa Ibom and Kano states to settle for the silver and bronze medals.

Didih Onome was dominant as he claimed gold medals in snatch, clean and jerk and total for Lagos with 86kg, 103kg and 189kg lift respectively.
Theresa Daniel of Akwa Ibom State won all the three silver medals after lifting 78kg in snatch, 102kg in clean and jerk and 180 kg in total.

Team Kano collected all the three bronze medals with Temidayo Jegede’s 78kg in single and 176kg in total, as well as Anabel Tsesaa’s 100kg in clean and jerk.
