Dikko reaffirms commitment to sports renaissance at awards

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, at the weekend, reaffirmed his commitment to the restructuring of the country’s sports sector to make it attractive to private sector investors.
Speaking during the Newstap Communications/SWAN Five Star Awards, which recognised five top players in the sports sector, Dikko said his body has already started laying the blocks to build an economically viable sports sector.
Dikko, who was the chairman of the event, noted that all the awardees have contributed greatly and are still contributing to the development of the country’s sports ecosystem.
“I must commend the organisers of this award for putting up such a wonderful event. They, as critical stakeholders in the Nigerian sports industry, did the needful by selecting the major investors in our country’s sports for this award and I doff my hat for them,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Group Managing Director of GTI Assets Management and Trust Limited, Abubakar Lawal, who was one of the awardees, expressed his excitement for the recognition of his firm’s contributions to the Nigerian league, noting that his company will continue to partner with the NFF and NPFL to ensure that the country’s league competes favourably with the best in the world.
Apart from Lawal, other awardees recognised at the event were Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Valuejet Airlines Chairman, Kunle Soname, sports facilities expert, Ebi Egbe, and Paul Edeh, who owns two women’s football clubs.
One of the co-chairpersons of the now-unified Nigerian Supporters Club, Ambassador Oluwakemi Ogunfuwa, also received an award of recognition for her contributions to the country’s sports development.
