Dolphins, First Bank maintain dominance as second phase ends
Defending Champions, Dolphins of Lagos, and First Bank Basketball Club have maintained their dominance of the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League as the second phase ends in Asaba. Both teams are yet to lose a game in the league and may be heading for a showdown when the final phase takes place in Lagos later this year.
In some of the games decided on the final day of the second phase, Benue Princess defeated IGP Queens 51 to 45, putting the team in a good position to play in the final round. Both teams came all out for victory, but the Princess made better use of their scoring chances, limiting the incursion of their opponents with a solid defence set up.
At some point in the encounter, it looked like victory could go either way, but Benue Princess ensured they earned the vital points to be on track.
Nigeria Customs also defeated First Deepwater 49 to 31, while First Bank and AHIP walked over Sunshine Queens and Zamfara Babes respectively.
Meanwhile, the sponsor of the league, Zenith Bank PLC, has commended the teams for putting up good performances in the first and second phases, urging them to continue in the same fashion in the final phase in Lagos.
