Elegbeleye, Bassey, others make interim League management committee

As part of its 10-year Football Master Plan approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, to revive the country’s domestic league, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, yesterday, unveiled a 10-man Interim League Management Committee.

As part of its 10-year Football Master Plan approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, to revive the country’s domestic league, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, yesterday, unveiled a 10-man Interim League Management Committee.

The committee will replace the League Management Company, which managed the Nigeria Professional League (NPFL), before it was declared illegal by the sports ministry.

A statement signed by the Director (Press & Public Relations), Mohammed Manga, yesterday, stated that the former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, will serve as committee’s chairman.

Veteran journalist and Chairman of Akwa United Football Club, Akwa Ibom, Paul Bassey, is appointed as the vice chairman, and former international, Davidson Owumi, will head its operations.

Other members of the committee include the owner of Remo Stars, Kunle Soname; former international, Daniel Amokachi; Calvin Emeka Onwuka; Aliyu Adamu; a representative of the NFF; a representative of the Nigeria Police Force; Mr. Danladi Ibrahim, and Olumide Bamiduro, who would serve as secretary.

The statement added that the terms of reference of the committee would be announced later.
