Enyimba have decided to sack head coach, Yemi Olarenwaju popularly known as Yewa with the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) replacing him with Stanley Eguma on Saturday.
They confirmed the sack of Yewa in a statement on their official X account, a development which was highly expected following the current dreadful run of the Aba Elephants.
“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olarenwaju. The club thanks Coach Olarenwaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
They extended their winless run to nine games following their goalless draw with Plateau United in a rescheduled Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) game at the New Jos Stadium on Thursday, Boxing Day.
Enyimba currently find themselves in an unusually insipid run of form which has seen the Elephants of Aba fail to win any of their last nine matches across two competitions, the NPFL and the CAF Confederation Cup.
They were desperate to secure their first win in two months when they filed out against Plateau United but they just could not measure up as they played out yet another draw.
Enyimba have not particularly been losing but they have played out a draw on seven occasions during that time while they suffered defeat two times with both losses coming in the CAF Confederation Cup.
For the record, they last celebrated three points on October 27, 2024 which was when they enjoyed their last victory of any kind, an NPFL match which saw them beat Ikorodu City at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Ever since then, it has been tales of woes for Enyimba who are also on the brink of being sent out of the CAF Confederation Cup, having so far played out one draw and suffered two defeats in three matches in the group stage.
