Ex-Super Eagles Star, Sodje urges corporate bodies to invest in grassroots sports

Former Super Eagles player and member of the current board of Delta Sports Commission, Samuel Sodje, has urged corporate bodies in Delta State to key into sports development at the grassroots level.

Sodje, who is also a board member of Delta State Football Association (Head of Technical), stated this during a one-day seminar on grassroots football development, held in Asaba.

He explained that government cannot solely provide the necessary tools and financial resources for the effective development of sports and sports infrastructure at the grassroots level.

According to him, the involvement of other stakeholders would give Delta sports men and women the opportunity to properly compete with their counterparts in the more advanced societies where the concept of corporate funding for sports has fully developed.

Speaking on the Theme: ‘Sustaining football, inspiring generations and corporate backing for grassroots football development’, Sodje said: “Investing in athlete to have a life after sports is very essential and corporate bodies should be prepared to play crucial role herein because they must plan for the lives after their sporting careers comes to an end.”
