As part of its efforts to promote grassroots sports development, the Federal Government has donated equipment to the Central Pilot Primary School, New Karu in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

At a ceremony in the School’s premises on Tuesday, the Permanent Secretary Special Duties, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Festus Daudu, who presented the equipment, acknowledged that the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) was complimenting the efforts of the federal, state and local governments by providing sports equipment to schools through its ‘Good Causes’ mandate, which is in line with the next level agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Daudu seized the opportunity to appeal to the school’s management to ensure the safety and proper management of the sports equipment in addition to utilizing it for the main purpose it was procured.

He also acknowledged the good work of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission for regulating the industry and ensuring that revenue was generated from the activities of lottery and gaming operations.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, Mallam Bello Maigari noted that President Muhammadu Buhari directed NLTF in 2015 to procure and distribute sporting equipment to public primary schools for the promotion of such activities as football, athletics, handball, judo, basketball and taekwondo.

He noted that the gesture to the Central Pilot Primary School had earlier been done to public primary schools across the country and appealed to the school’s authority to secure and maintain the sports equipment.

“The equipment should be utilized for the purpose for which it was procured,” he said.
The Esu Karu, Dr. Luka Panya Baba appreciated the efforts of the Federal Government in the provision of the sports equipment, noting that the intervention programme would create a future for the people of Karu by affecting the physical and mental well-being of the pupils in preparation for future leadership roles.

The Head teacher of the school Mr. Yakubu Nakawo thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the provision and distribution of the sports equipment to schools in the grassroots.
