First Bank, Dolphins maintain winning streak as Zenith Women Basketball League resumes

The second phase of the Zenith Women’s Basketball League began at the weekend with defending champions, First Bank and former champions, Dolphins still in their winning mode.

The second phase of the Zenith Women’s Basketball League began at the weekend with defending champions, First Bank and former champions, Dolphins still in their winning mode.

Both teams, as well as MFM Basketball Club, ended the first round unbeaten and on Saturday, they showed their intention of moving all the way to the national finals.

The matches are holding in Akure, Ibadan, Zaria and Abuja, where some teams are expected to drop while some others will move on in the competition.

In Ibadan, First Bank defeated Ogun Babes110-30 in a largely one-sided encounter decided at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Liberty Stadium. I was a game the Elephant Girls complete dominated, reducing the Ogun girls to training materials.

Also in Ibadan, Dolphins defeated Oluyole Babes 104-31 in another one-sided game in the South West Zone of the competition. Ekiti Angels are the other team in the centre.

The MFM Queens are in the Akure Centre tagged South East Zone alongside Delta Force, IGP Queens, Coal City Queens, First Deepwater and Sunshine Angels.

Zaria is the base of the North West Zone, which has Taraba Hurricanes, Kebbi Angels, Adamawa Angels, Zamfara Babes, Exousia Angels, GT 2000 Queens, Nigeria Army Amazons and AHIP, while North Central Zone in Abuja has Nigeria Customs, Benue Princess Plateau Rocks, Nasarawa Amazons, Blackgold Queens, Air Warriors Babes, FCT Wings and Kanem Queens of Borno competing for honours.

The zonal competition continues today and ends on September 12.
