AFCON Qualifiers: Rohr unveils Benin squad for Nigeria
Cheetahs of Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has unveiled his squad that will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matchday 5 Group D qualifier.
Rohr announced his 26-man squad for the matchday 5 and 6 qualifiers against the Super Eagles and Libya.
Among those invited by the German-born coach are Augsburg star Steve Mounie, Tosin Aiyegun, Junior Olaitan, French-born Sessi D’Almeida, Andreas Hountondji, and Ludogorets defender Olivier Verdon.
The game is scheduled for November 14 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, CĂ´te d’Ivoire.
The last time both teams met in Abidjan was in June this year on matchday 4 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, with Benin coming from a goal down to beat the Super Eagles 2-1.
The Super Eagles avenged the defeat to Benin with a comfortable 3-0 win in their first game of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in Uyo in September.
A draw will be enough to secure the Super Eagles’ qualification ticket to next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the coach Austine Eguavoen-led Eagles are top of the group with 10 points, with Benin in second place with six points.
Rwanda occupies the third spot with five points, while Libya remains at the bottom with just one point.
