CAF clears Nigeria U17 team for WAFU B Championship
Nigeria’s U17 team, the Golden Eaglets, received a boost ahead of the WAFU B Championship in Ghana after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) gave the 20 Nigerian players a clean bill of health after passing mandatory tests.
This ensures a full-strength squad for Coach Manu Garba as they aim to defend their WAFU B title.
“We are happy about the results. Having the whole squad to prosecute the tournament somewhat puts our minds at rest.
“The players have been responding to training. The weather is similar to what we experienced in Abuja before our departure. Our primary objective is to get one of the two tickets from here to the Africa U17 Cup of Nations. We will focus on the matches one at a time. For now, we are focused on our opening game against Burkina Faso on Thursday.”
The Eaglets’ primary goal is to secure one of the two qualifying spots for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations. They’ll take a one-game-at-a-time approach, starting with their opener against Burkina Faso on Thursday at the University Stadium (3 PM Ghana time, 4 PM Nigeria time).
Their remaining matches include Niger Republic on Sunday (University Stadium, 6 PM Ghana, 7 PM Nigeria) and Togo on Wednesday, May 22nd (Accra Sports Stadium, 4 PM Ghana, 5 PM Nigeria).
