Eljif Elmas has officially returned to Napoli on a loan arrangement from RB Leipzig, with the Italian club holding an option to make the transfer permanent for an additional €16 million. The initial loan fee is reported to be €2 million.
The North Macedonia international, who spent five years at Napoli from 2019 to January 2024, underwent medical tests last week before completing the formalities of the move. Elmas’s return has been met with enthusiasm from
Napoli staff and supporters alike, as he reconnects with familiar faces at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Elmas, who will turn 26 later this month, had previously made 189 appearances for Napoli, scoring 19 goals and registering 11 assists. During his first spell, he contributed to Napoli’s triumphs in both Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
“I am very pleased to be back in Naples,” Elmas said. “This city and this club have always felt like home. I am eager to contribute on the pitch and help the team achieve its goals this season.”
Following his departure in January 2024, Elmas joined RB Leipzig for €17.7 million but spent part of last season on loan at Torino in Serie A. Negotiations for an extension of his stint in Italy had been ongoing, but Napoli’s interest prompted a decisive return.
Napoli management expressed satisfaction at securing a player familiar with the club’s system and capable of strengthening the midfield. The club highlighted Elmas’s versatility and experience in Serie A as key factors in the acquisition.
