Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed concerns about the playing surface at Estadió 24 de Setembro as Nigeria take on Guinea-Bissau later today, with kick-off set for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.

The team trained at the stadium on Monday evening after arriving on Sunday.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matchday 2 fixture will take place at the 15,000-capacity stadium in the nation’s capital as the two teams look to continue their impressive start to the series.

Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus won away from home by beating Tanzania 2-0, while the Super Eagles came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Madagascar in Uyo.

While speaking to the media, Nigeria’s head coach expressed worries over the condition of the pitch but said his team will try to adapt and focus on the plan to win.

“I don’t want to say the pitch is good or the pitch is bad. We work on the pitch. As I said, we just need to stay focused on our game project.

“We try to play football. We will see during the training session if we can play football. I will think about the conditions.”

Chelle also expressed admonition for Guinea-Bissau. Former Everton striker Beto, Brest forward, Mama Baldé and Trabzonspor’s Franculino are among the players in the Guinea-Bissau parade

“They have a great team and have players who play in Europe. This is a big game. The most important thing for us is to try to go forward, try to secure a victory, but it will not be easy,” Chelle added.

“We have to stay focused on our group and our state of mind. This is the most important.”
