The Premier League clash between Manchester United and Arsenal on Sunday drew excitement both on and off the pitch, as the Red Devils edged out the Gunners 3-2 in a closely contested encounter.
Arsenal took an early lead through their captain, but United responded before half-time, and the second half saw a flurry of goals, with Matheus Cunha scoring the decisive winner to seal the victory for the visitors.
While the result added drama to the league table, football fans across Nigeria also had reason to celebrate.
MTN Nigeria hosted a series of watch parties in major cities, including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Abuja, and Ogun State, bringing supporters closer to the action despite the distance from England.
At the flagship event in Lagos, fans experienced stadium-grade surround sound, giant LED screens, and interactive fan zones. Supporters wore club colours and cheered passionately throughout the match.
“The energy here in Abuja is incredible,” said Tunde Afolabi, a Manchester United fan. “MTN has really outdone itself. I’m glad we grabbed the three points. Watching the game with fellow fans like this makes the win a memorable one and I can say the hospitality is top-notch.”
In Port Harcourt, Arsenal supporter Chiamaka Okechukwu highlighted the difference the event made. “I’ve been to many screenings, but this watch party is different. The clarity of the broadcast and the prizes we won during halftime made it a complete experience. Arsenal showed heart today, and being here in Owerri with my friends to see it was special.”
The nationwide watch parties are part of MTN Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote football engagement and decentralise fan experiences beyond the major cities, creating immersive events for supporters across the country.
As the Premier League season intensifies, the collaboration between football culture and local fan activations continues to draw attention and enthusiasm across Nigeria.
