The 2024 JOF Under-13 Soccer Tournament concluded with a thrilling display of footballing talent, culminating in the selection of the JOF All Stars team to represent the finest young footballers in Lagos State. The team, formed from standout players across 67 neighbourhood clubs and academies, had the opportunity to face off against Ogun State’s Smart Strikers Football Academy in an exhilarating interstate friendly match.

The match, held on Sunday, 29 December, at the Abalti Barracks Sports Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, kicked off at 3:30 PM, officiated by Mr Ogadinma Mordi, a devoted supporter of youth football development.

The Smart Strikers Football Academy wasted no time making their mark. Within 15 minutes, their captain, Ridwan Oladokun, launched a stunning long volley from the right wing, putting Ogun State ahead with the opening goal. This electrifying start set the tone for a highly competitive encounter.

The JOF All Stars found their equaliser when Ayomide Oluwadare, wearing number 4 for the Smart Strikers, committed a foul against number 9, Abdullah Abolore, inside the 18-yard box. The referee awarded a penalty, which the JOF All Stars skipper, Malik Yekini, converted with precision.

The remainder of the first half saw both teams showcasing exceptional skill and tactical prowess, thrilling spectators with their movement and determination.

In the second half, the JOF All Stars seized control. The turning point came during a midfield tussle that ended with player number 7, Michael Faduola, striking a swift and powerful shot past the goalkeeper, giving Lagos the lead.

With 16 minutes left on the clock, JOF extended their advantage. Malik Yekini, now playing on the left wing, delivered a perfectly timed cross into the 18-yard box, where Abdullah Abolore capitalised on the opportunity, slotting the ball into the net for his team’s third goal.
