NPFL postpones Enyimba, Akwa United tie as Etoile Filante arrive today

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has moved Enyimba’s home league game against Akwa United from Sunday to Wednesday, next week, in consideration of the Peoples Elephant’s CAF Confederation Cup game against Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante on the same date.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has moved Enyimba’s home league game against Akwa United from Sunday to Wednesday, next week, in consideration of the Peoples Elephant’s CAF Confederation Cup game against Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante on the same date.

Enyimba have been in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, preparing for the continental clash with Etoile Filante, which first leg ended in a goalless draw.

The Peoples Elephant need to beat the Burkinabe side to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

In a letter to Enyimba and Akwa United, NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, explained the need for the postponement, and the logistic arrangement for the new date.

Two-time African champions, Enyimba, are seeking their first victory in the CAF Confederation Cup. The team made history in 2003 when they became the first Nigerian side to win the CAF Champions League. They retained the title in 2004.

Meanwhile, the Etoile Filante delegation for the game is expected to arrive in Nigeria this evening, according to an Enyimba official.

He said the team will touch down in Lagos today from where they will be ferried to Uyo.
