Plateau United forward Gafar Oriyomi Saka emerged as one of the club’s standout performers during the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, scoring eight goals across all competitions to help steer the Jos-based side to a respectable mid-table finish.

Born on 1 June 2003, the 23-year-old attacker played an influential role as Plateau United, under the guidance of experienced coach Gbenga Ogunbote, secured 10th place in the league standings and avoided being drawn into the season’s relegation battle.

In a campaign marked by inconsistency for several clubs, Saka’s contributions in the final third proved crucial, with the striker repeatedly delivering important moments when his side needed them most.

His eight-goal tally included strikes against El-Kanemi Warriors, Bendel Insurance and Abia Warriors in league competition, while he also found the net against Ahudiame in the FA Cup.

Saka’s performances reflected both his growing maturity and adaptability. Although naturally a central striker, he demonstrated his versatility by operating effectively from the left flank whenever required, providing Plateau United with tactical flexibility in attack.

The former Morak FC youth player, who began his football journey in Warri, Delta State, has earned recognition for blending physicality with pace and technical quality. Comfortable playing with his back to goal, he possesses the ability to hold up possession, bring teammates into attacking moves and create space through intelligent movement.

His willingness to work for the team also stood out throughout the season. Beyond the goals, Saka’s pressing, link-up play and ability to occupy defenders enabled Plateau United to build attacks more effectively and maintain pressure in advanced areas.

Known for his powerful running, strong frame, and clinical finishing, the forward frequently troubled defenders in one-on-one situations while also proving effective as a target man capable of converting opportunities inside the penalty area.

Saka remains among the promising attacking talents in the domestic game. His performances this season not only underlined his importance to Plateau United but also suggested a player continuing to evolve and refine his craft.

With eight goals to his name and valuable top-flight experience gained under Ogunbote’s tutelage, the Plateau United forward will hope to build on his momentum in the seasons ahead as he seeks to establish himself among the NPFL’s leading attackers.
