Ibusa Club lauds oil firm, others for promoting yearly football tourney
Ibusa Sports Club at the weekend lauded North West Petroleum and Gas Company for sponsoring a yearly football competition for the youths of the community and its environs.
The club said the firm has continued to ensure that the youths have an avenue to practice their talents and build towards lucrative careers in football.
Speaking on this year’s edition of the competition, the Coordinator of the championship, Mr. Emma Amatokwu a.k.a Kwasa, said due to the company’s commitment in the last four years, the tournament has become more exciting in terms of increased participation and financial benefits.
He also lauded other prominent Ibusa indigenes, who have supported the tourney financially and morally, over the past 36 years.
He thanked the Managing Director/CEO, North West Petroleum & Gas Limited, Dame Winnie Akpani, for her leadership role in making the yearly event memorable, adding that the 2021 edition will begin on December 18.
He explained that the last four years have brought remarkable changes to the competition through the aid of the oil company, saying, “For instance, the winning team’s cash prize rose from N100, 000 to N500, 000, while the second and third-placed teams now get N300, 000 and N200, 000 respectively.
He added: “Individual’s cash prizes have increased from N20, 000 to N50, 000 with the firm also providing branded jerseys and hoses yearly for all the 10 teams that participate in the event.
“The company also takes care of decorations of the football arena, among others.”
He urged both the oil firm and Ibusa sons and daughters not to relent in their priceless service to the community.
