International Cricket Council’s (ICC) General Manager-Development, William Glenwright, is scheduled to visit Nigeria from tomorrow to Wednesday, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has disclosed.

According to the NCF, Glenwright will, during his stay in Nigeria, have a series of meetings with stakeholders and also visit some of the cricket infrastructures in the country.

NCF General Manager, Emeka Igwilo, said the appointment is incumbent on the several developments that Nigeria cricket has recorded and the strategic role the country is playing in the regional growth of the game.

“We are delighted to host the ICC Global Development Manager, William Glenwright, he will be visiting Lagos, Edo and Abuja. From the design, it is primarily a working visit, which further cements all our development effort. We hope to also leverage his coming to showcase and drive plans deeper with stakeholders,” he said.

The game has been on the upswing in the country, with Nigeria winning two development awards in the last three years, including 2022, where NCF was declared the winner of the ICC Cricket For Good and Social Initiative Award.

The NCF has also set a 250, 000 new player recruitments target across the country and have in a number of states, been working with the school system to reach more students.

“In the region too, we are involved in some facility developments in Ghana, where our groundsmen are supporting the Ghana Cricket Federation in the upgrade of their pitches to meet the international required standard for the hosting of the All Africa Games in 2023, where cricket has been approved to come on board,” he added.

Glenwirght’s visit compliments the country’s hosting of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier holding in Abuja from September 30 to October 9, 2020.
