Ikoyi Club Ladies’ Open tourney gets date

The 49th Ikoyi Club 1938 Ladies’ Open Golf Tournament is set to hold from November 13-15, 2024, with the theme: “A Taste of Nigeria.”
The event, according to the club, promises an immersive cultural experience, showcasing Nigeria’s diversity and rich history
The three-day gross tournament will feature 120 amateur lady golfers, 17 professional lady golfers, and 100 male golfers from Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda, the USA, and other countries, the organisers said.
It will feature players with handicaps 0-28, who will compete in strokeplay format, while those with handicaps 29-36 will play in stableford format. This format allows players to manage their time effectively and prevent slow play on the course.
The grand finale will see lady finalists compete in strokeplay format alongside Ikoyi Club 1938 male golfers.
The tournament which boasts prestigious prizes, including a business class ticket to the U.S.A., courtesy of Delta Airlines, an experience in Marrakech, Morocco, and a stay at Lakowe Golf and Country Estate, will showcase the skills and talent of Nigeria’s top lady golfers.
Speaking on the event, Lady Captain, Ikoyi Club 1938, Fatumata Soukouna Coker, noted that the event would parade the country’s unique culture, food, clothing, and style.
She said that the daily cultural exhibits would feature fabrics, craft, and art from various regions, with each day dedicated to a different region, adding that the live performances will highlight Nigeria’s rich musical heritage, while traditional Nigerian cuisine and beverages will be served.
“The tournament will support local caddies through training, scholarships, and sponsorship funds. Seventeen Nigerian lady professional golfers will compete for a free round-trip ticket to the U.S., courtesy of Delta Airlines.
“We want to share Nigeria’s beauty with the world. This event is not just a golf tournament; it’s an immersive cultural experience. We’re promoting golf, tourism, and Nigeria’s positive image.”
