Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Frank Ilaboya, has explained that the Owan West Cycling Tour, which is scheduled to hold on March 1 in Sabongida-Ora, will empower Nigerian youths.

The Nigeria Cycling Federation (NCF) approved event is sponsored by CEO, MASVI and Sons Ltd, Sunday Ajayi.

“As an LGA, we see sports as a tool to engage the youths. Mr Ajayi is sponsoring the cycling tour to empower Nigerian youths because sports is the best area to take the youths off the streets and empower them. We are ready to host a successful event, “ Ilaboya said.

He added that the tour was a prelude to the football, athletics, cycling and table tennis project initiated by his administration to breed talented athletes for the state.

“The FACTT project, which is for U-13 kids, is all about catching them young. We want the world to have a feel of what we are doing, that’s why top sports stakeholders have been invited to grace the cycling event,” Ilaboya added.

Meanwhile, three officials of the Nigeria Cycling Federation have proceeded on a route-mapping exercise for the event, while the medical and security personnel have been recruited for the championship.
